Updated: Oct 15, 2021

BELOW YOU WILL FIND MY ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS PROVIDED BY THE BEARSPAW LAND OWNERS’ GROUP. PLEASE NOTE THAT IN MANY CASES ANSWERS WERE MULTIPLE CHOICE OR ONE-WORD RESPONSE ONLY:

Q - WHAT ROLE DO YOU SEE FOR COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN ROCKY VIEW COUNTY?

A - Minimal. There is a place for this type of development, but it must have a demonstrated need and must be appropriately located.

Q - WHAT FACTORS ARE RELEVANT IN DECIDING THE APPROPRIATENESS OF COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN ROCKY VIEW COUNTY?

A - Scale, proximity to residents – only if supported by the local community, availability of servicing, proximity to existing transportation networks

Q - WHAT FACTORS DO YOU CONSIDER APPROPRIATE WHEN COUNCIL CONSIDERS LAND USE APPLICATIONS?

A - Fiscal impact for the County, availability of environmentally sustainable servicing, impact on existing communities, consistency with policy

Q - WHAT METHODS SHOULD RESIDENTS/LANDOWNERS HAVE TO INFLUENCE ADMINISTRATION’S RECOMMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL AND TO COUNCIL’S DECISION MAKING?

A - Written submissions, audio and visual submissions, Third-party independent submission, in-person submission, remote participation and day-of emails

Q - FOR THESE GENERAL CATEGORIES OF ISSUES, HOW MUCH INPUT FROM RESIDENTS/LANDOWNERS WOULD YOU EXPECT TO BE CONSIDERED? RURAL /AGRICULTURAL HIGH-DENSITY RESIDENTIAL / ACREAGE RESIDENTIAL / COMMERCIAL / INDUSTRIAL

A - Significant to all of the above. It shouldn’t matter the size of an application, decision-making should reflect the input of the affected community.

Q - DO YOU SUPPORT INCLUDING FEES WITH LAND-USE APPLICATIONS TO COVER COSTS FOR COUNTY ADMINISTRATION TO UNDERTAKE THIRD-PARTY REVIEWS OF TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS AND/OR TO FUND PARTICIPATION IN THE PUBLIC HEARING PROCESS?

A – Yes

Q – DO YOU SUPPORT ROCKY VIEW COUNTY PARTICIPATING IN REGIONAL PLANNING THAT EMPHASIZES FISCAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE BROADER CALGARY REGION?

A – Yes

Q - HOW DO YOU BELIEVE COUNCIL SHOULD COMMUNICATE WITH TAXPAYERS/CONSTITUENTS?

A – County website, local newspapers, local radio, emails through Safe and Sound, and direct mail where appropriate.

Q – DO YOU BELIEVE ALL VIEWS SHOULD BE HEARD AND RESPECTED BEFORE COUNCIL MAKES ITS DECISION?

A – Yes

Q – IS THERE A ROLE FOR DISSENTING OPINIONS ON COUNCIL?

A – Yes

Q – HOW WOULD YOU RESOLVE DISPUTES BETWEEN COUNCILLORS?

A – Progressive / escalating – start with conversation between affected parties and only move to the next level if it is determined that the lesser alternative hasn’t addressed the problem and the issue is worthy of escalation.

Q – ARE YOU WILLING TO DISCLOSE THE SOURCE OF YOUR CAMPAIGN FUNDS PRIOR TO ELECTION DAY?

A – Yes

IF YOU ARE WILLING TO DISCLOSE YOUR CAMPAIGN FUND SOURCES, HOW WILL YOU PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION FOR PUBLIC DISCLOSURE?

A – Personal website

Q - WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR ROCKY VIEW COUNTY?

A – A controlled expansion of our communities. Development that respects policy, values input from affected stakeholders, and capitalizes on our rural character. To have a council that residents truly believe represents them and their interests. To have financial transparency so that stakeholders understand how their tax dollars are being spent. And, to ensure financial resiliency by ensuring development covers its costs.

Q – HOW DO YOU SEE ROCKY VIEW CHANGING OVER THE NEXT 10 TO 20 YEARS?

A – A gradual expansion of new and existing development that reflects anticipated growth. On the business side, a shift in focus to agribusiness and logistics – in appropriate locations.

Q – WHAT RELEVANT EXPERIENCE WOULD YOU BRING TO ROCKY VIEW COUNTY?

A – A current Councillor, I have also been actively involved in promoting residents’ interests for the past 7 years. I am committed to ensuring residents’ concerns are heard. I understand the issues we face. Have the track record proving I stand up for what I believe is right and regularly update residents on council decisions. I also sit on Rural Crime Watch’s Board.
